Half Yearly 2015 Hindi Movies Report
It’s July, half of the year has already gone and we have only a handful of movies in 2015 that we could call good cinema. The many big films like Bombay Velvet, Dil Dhadakne Do which were expected to do really well failed miserably despite their star appeal and huge budget. Though, surprisingly many small movies picked up and did really well like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, NH10, etc.

Best of 2015 – 1st half
The following 8 films stood out from the rest in terms of story and performances in the first half of the year:
Baby, Badlapur, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, NH10, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, Margarita With A Straw, Piku and Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
Big Disappointments
It was disappointing to see films like Shamitabh, Roy, Bombay Velvet, Dil Dhadakne Do and Hamari Adhuri Kahani didn’t live up to the expectations. These not only crashed at the box-office but the critics too bashed these movies for their lack of story and missing intent for newer narratives!
Women-Power
Another plus point was the female-dominated Box Office when you look at movies like Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Margarita With A Straw, NH10. The top movies till now either had a strong female presence or a women-centric topic. The credit goes highly to the female actors for their brilliant performances be it Deepika in Piku or exceptional double role of Kangana in TWMR. Even Sunny Leone made her mark with her movie Kuch Kuch Locha Hai and Ek Paheli Leela doing fairly well, though for different reasons.
Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka
What was very heartwarming to see was the success of small budget movies like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Margarita with a Straw, Hunterrr, NH10 which were able to earn good profits and make a mark in the audience’s mind as well.
The 100 crore club
Unlike nine movies in 2014 which entered the 100 crore club, this year only one film i.e. Tanu Weds Manu Returns has made it to the club until now. Though, ABCD 2 is all set to pass this golden figure. Films with huge star-cast like Dil Dhadakne Do and Bombay Velvet failed miserably at box-office. This shows the audience is going for the content rather than the star value of the movie.
