The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Kerala, is all set to launch what is probably India's first government-backed OTT platform. Called C Space, the digital streaming platform is scehduled to go live on March 7, 2024 [Thursday]. KSFDC Chairman Shaji N Karun has said in the media that C space, will be launched with a 42 film line-up in phase 1.
C space will function on a pay-per-view model, and the price to watch one feature film is Rs. 75. Once paid and viewed, the content remains available for 72 hours. If the paid for content is left unviewed on C Space, then it will be available for up to 3 months. Reportedly, shorter contents will be offered at a lower price. The content providers are said to have a 50% share in the charged price.
Once an user ID is created, C Space can be logged in on upto 3 devices. The Malayalam movies' streaming app is downloadable from Google's Playstore and Apple store. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to inaugurate C Space OTT platform at Kairali Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram at 9:30 am tomorrow, with Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian presiding over the event.
Of the 42 films that will be made available for streaming on C Space's launch, 6 will be documentaries. KSFDC currently has a panel of 60 curators, and every submission to the C Space platform undergoes evaluation by 3 curators from the panel.
C Space OTT platform is said to be aimed for movies that do not get a space in the theatrical market. Only content endorsed by the curators will feature on the streaming platform, after going through an assessment for artistic, cultural, and entertainment value.
