Mersal - Once again Vijay is back with Atlee after their blockbuster Theri. And, once again I've no idea why this movie is titled 'Mersal' just like 'Theri'. First thing first, after the atrocious look in Bairavaa, Vijay looks terrific in this movie. He seems to be getting younger, ya I know this sounds cliched. But, after Theri once again he's making me to look myself and feel bad about my fitness. For the third time Atlee has remade a classic. After Mouna Ragam, Satriyan this time he decides to go with Apoorva Sagotharargal (but it reminds many other movies as well). And, he has done his work very well to fit an ordinary revenge drama with some social message and it worked really well. The main positive factor is Vijay, no atrocious hairdo, no irritating voice modulation. And, ya he speaks too many punch dialogues directed at the audience, which works well in this setup rather than Puli kind of film. His dance movements were terrific after some time. And, he smokes on screen after quite some time I guess. If you are wondering why this is to differentiate between the two look alike Vijay. One who smokes is Vetri, the magician and who doesn't is Maran, the doctor. Other than Vijay only Nitya Menon gets some role and shares a good chemistry with Vijay in the 80s flashback portion. Next comes S J Surya, the villain, who was good in few scenes. The other two heroines character comes for maximum 10 mins with a song each. And, Satyaraj to listen to the flashbacks. Vadivelu is back, again still expecting a proper comeback for him, this movie doesn't have enough screen time for him. Atlee always does well in presentation. Each and every frame was glossy and the cameraman Vishnu has hit a century on debut. Also, the screenplay was engaging enough which made me sit through almost 3 hours without any complaint. Vijayendra Prasad's touch was visible especially in the flashback portion. And, ya this movie did remind me of many of many other hit Tamil movies. Sivaji, Ramana, Kaththi, etc., to name a few. Also, a lot of questions comes to mind. How Kovai Sarala met Maran? Vadivel met Maran? Why Vetri didn't meet his brother all these years? Why Dr Arjun didn't recognize Maran? Why wait so long for taking revenge? Has Vetri killed any other doctors before? And, that mandatory "aal-marattam" scene in the second half with the look alikes. Maran isn't a Jeevanantham, who can't fight, so that was not needed I guess. But, the thing is none of this came to mind while watching. And, that's the success of a mass movie. Overall Mersal was a satisfying festival movie for me. It would be great if Ajith and Vijay does movies like Managaram, Vikram Vedha, but still Vijay's next step is clear (political) we can only get these and as far as Ajith's concern looks like his next is also going to be with Siva, so we better don't discuss it. First half really good and engaging.. Kajal Ajarwal and Nithya Menon good acting...director Atlee did well to maintain suspense regarding Vijay and Sj Suryah characters. .second half touches of Murugadoss but screenplay was a drag. Overall the film is a good watch for Diwali weekend but film solely rests on Vijay shoulders throughout. SATHYARAJ relegated to background as the film moved on. Slightly disappointed as not matchinG high expectations. BGM pakka songs somewhat ok level only. (more)

Average movie, nothing new. Vijay done his role well but Atlee is not. Forced emotions just focused on make you to cry not creating impact. Disappointed with moviecrow review such a praise for this average stuff, you lost your credibility, its another website just started to praise worthless movies and focus on box office status. (more)

#Mersal - Nothing new! But a pakka entertainer for fans and family this festival!! Atlee Kumar usually takes up one of the old movies, do some cosmetic changes and delivers us in a fresh glossy manner. This time he didn't take up one movie but around 10 movies and delivered as a package for family Audiences and hardcore fans. Not necessary to mention those films here, you can easily related it when you are watching the movie. A stone age story but with an important social issue for the current scenario has been portrayed in a lighter tone. It could have been a little more deep in the movie. Locations and visuals are awesome esp. Aazhaporan Tamizhan is visually stunning. So again it's an one man show here. This movie is nothing without Actor Vijay ! He steals the show with his energy, charisma , fitness and deftness. Intro, title card sequences and interval block is one among his best ever. His performance was excellent and one of the finest of his career as he has multiple roles to carry and he handles with ease. Three lady leads, Kajal Aggarwal , Samantha Akkineni and Nithya Menen out of which Nithya's role was meatiest and she has done great in the flashback portion. Vijay and Nithya's chemistry worked out so well. A couple of scenes and songs for the rest two ladies. Sathya Raj, Vadivelu and kovai sarala have minimal portions and decent. This may not be the best performance of S J Suryah but he did justice to the role as a villain. A.R. Rahman's music shines in songs but not in BGM. Stunts were powerful and well refined. Cinematography is top notch by a debut cameraman Vishnu. I felt the movie's duration a bit lengthy in the first half love portions and second half flashback portions. It could have been trimmed off for an even better gripping screenplay and content could have been delivered in a stronger tone. Mersal might not give a mersal experience for movie-buffs as its a mix of old wines, but for general audience its definitely a pakka family entertainer for this festival!! (more)

#Mersal : First thing wish to say about content !! Some people saying n ll say also it looks like some old Film content itseems but to be Frank #Mersal Film plot is entirely different !! It's about full n full of Medical Scam n how respective person's in the field are careless about one person dying life !! And Then revenge connected to villain since he is master of Scam !! .. content is pure Mersal n made it perfect package but lacks bit in lengthy second half then Thalaivaar managed d entire show on his shoulder n with his screen presence n charisma ruled d show !! Major highlights n dam guts are talking abt current scenario interview scene with Dr Maran then Vijay & Sathyaraj conversation abt hospital process then jail scene's n finally about GST n how it affected to Medical Scam & govt hospital too with social awareness messages .. No other Actor ll do this sort of roles except "Thalapathy Vijay" n Atlee given his best too .. Song's n BGM Vera Vera level by A.R.Rahman n Visuals stunned !! "Alaporan Thamizhan" & Mersal arasan songs Ku theatre Erupted !! Samantha & Kajal not big impact & Nithya Semmmaaa role Vadivelu made laugh here n there but not big portion for him to score !! Overall First Half breezy n quick screenplay n colourful song's n Masti interval block !! Second half bit drag with lengthy portion but made to watch it with ease of Good Social message !! Final Word : One Man who didn't think abt anything !! Carried whole Film in shoulder as per director instructions & Considered abt Social message & want to convey d message through his Film with lot's of true incident dailogues & much guts!!
