Phantom Movie Review – Phantom disappoints big time!

After BajrangiBhaijaan, this endeavor of director Kabir Khan fails terribly in terms of almost everything. Neither Saif, nor Katrina could save this fiasco of a film. But the real villain for everyone here is the very confused and over-ambitious storyline which finally wasn’t able to achieve anything good.

The story starts in Mumbai in the Indian Intelligence headquarters where security officials decide that  the feeling of fear from terror among the Indian minds should be eliminated and the only way to do it is to kill the terrorists at their very home. To do this job, special agent Daniyal (Saif) is hired and is helped (God knows why) by Nawaz Mistry (Katrina) who works for an American security agency. Daniyal and Nawaz against all odds try and finish the job they had set out to do i.e. killing terrorists and keep doing that at different places. What are the odds and how they actually face those is the story.

Saif Ali Khan has now come into a league of his own, giving flops after flops and performances that are not even remotely up to the mark. He carries just one expression all throughout the film and lacks the conviction of the James Bond league. Katrina on the other hand is expression less and she should just sit back, read some good acting books, do some courses and has to somehow improve her acting skills. Even she should choose good projects for herself because movies like Phantom, Bang Bang and Dhoom 3 are not helping her grow herself except for the bank balance. The only good part in the movie was the casting of good supporting actors like SabyasachiChakraberty and Mohammed ZeeshanAyub but they too suffered from badly written characters.

The action sequences are grippy but the politics of the film lacks any conviction or layering whatsoever. Everything and anything was happening with lack of properly research and developed content. It all seemed a half-hearted attempt with amazing potential left unexplored. Neither it offers any goosebumps, nor it is any bit of engaging. The dialogues are also average and there’s nothing special about them. The music might just keep you awake through this film.

If you are not planning to ruin your RakshaBandhan weekend with your family, then you should definitely skip these 147 minutes of boredom!
