Update: Kaththi stalemate continues as conflicts loom

Kaththi follows the pattern of yet another highly expected movie of Vijay running into political turmoils. It is unfortunate that Kaththi is playing out the same way Thalaivaa controversy unfolded. Despite a number of discussions going on with various concerned parties, there is no amicable resolution yet. 

Political Outfits: Ever since the announcement, Tamil outfits have been questioning the connection of Lyca Productions with the Sri Lankan President and were requesting for the ban of the movie. After a number of negotiations, they have eased their stance now and requesting for removal of the producer's name(Lyca) on future posters, promotions and title cards.

Producers : Lyca and Ayngaran are co-producing the movie. Ayngaran is ready to offer a compromise by removing the banner name. However, Lyca is steadfast and refused to remove their logo from the movie. Lyca had apparently quoted that they will even keep the movie unreleased but not compromise on losing the due credits they rightfully deserve. This is not just an issue of removing their name as Lyca is planning to enter Tamil movie industry market in a big way with ongoing discussions for upcoming ventures with Kamal Haasan. From Lyca's perspective, it is critical for the producer to not yield since it will permanently shut them out of Tamil industry.

Meanwhile, theatre owners had received some threats and are concerned about taking risks. They are willing to release the movie only if the protests are called off by the Tamil outfits. FEFSI union has decided not to co-operate for any movies produced by Lyca in the future. This issue has been further aggravated due to the ongoing power changes in the TN government. The sources believe that a lack of strong mediator from the state government to drive this issue to closure is hurting Kaththi's release.
