Shahid Kapoor's 'Haider' clears censor after 41 cuts

Shahid Kapoor's 'Haider' gets U/A certificate after 41 cuts

Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Haider' is one of the hugely anticipated films this year. The film stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon, Tabu and Irrfan. Haider is based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet and is set in Kashmir. It is the third installment of Vishal Bhardwaj's Shakespearean trilogy after Maqbool (Macbeth) and Omkara (Othello). Shahid Kapoor is co-producing Haider along with Bhardwaj and UTV. It is set to hit the screens on October 2, 2014.

The film has completed the censor formalities and has been given an 'U/A' certificate, but only after 41 cuts. The details of the cuts are mentioned on the CBFC's official website. Some of cuts made in the film include the use of a few expletives, visuals of a burning body, corpses piled into a truck, Shahid's character walking among corpses, a close-up shot of an appendix surgery and a stone-pelting incident.

Director Vishal has revealed, "The CBFC asked for seven cuts. The film was first submitted to the Board two months before the final edit. When the film came to the revising committee, Vishal along with the film's editor, had made more than 35 cuts to tighten the film. These were not imposed by either the Board or the revising committee."
