I don’t quite remember the time I last saw a good horror film that completely spooked me out. It has been a while since Bollywood came out with one. Dobaara although a sincere attempt but fails to change this perception of mine.

Remake of the famous Hollywood horror flick Oculus by Mike Flanagan, Dobaara is the story of Natasha (Huma Qureshi) along with her brother Kabir (Saqib Saleem) tries to destroy amirror which she thinks is haunted, possesses dark powers and was responsible for their parents’ death. Will she be able to destroy it or will the mirror result in something more horrific?

The storyline is very interesting, different from the usual horror films. Even its narrative moves back and forth very effectively. Though there is not too much drama in the first half, the film picks up pace in the second and gives you a few goosebumps here and there. The director could have made the film more tighter and a few more elements could be added to the existing Oculus storyline.

Talking about the performances, Huma Qureshi’s act was decent but I have seen much better performances from her. Just hope her talent is not consumed by the commercial Bollywood treatment. Saqib puts up a good show and so did Lisa Ray. But the show-stealer was Adil Hussain with his amazing character traits.

In all, if you are a fan of horror films and haven’t seen Oculus, then only you should go watch it, otherwise just skip it. On the other thought, watching Oculus is a better option!
