Rajinikanth accepts mistake in property tax row! Says 'Experience is the only Lesson'!

Recently actor Rajinikanth became the centre of scrutiny after a Madras High Court hearing warned the actor of 'rushing to court' in the matter of property tax for a popular building owned by him. The actor-politician had filed a plea after the Corporation of Chennai set a Rs. 6.5 lakh tax to Raghavendra Mandapam, a wedding hall for the year 2019-2020.

The court said that the actor should have taken the matter up with the local body first before coming to court even as the actor's plea stated that Rajinithan sought remission** from the Chennai corporation citing lack of business from March 24, 2020 till date but the Corporation failed to respond to his claim filed on September 23, 2020.

While Rajinikanth's lawyer had sought 'time' to 'withdraw their petition' after High Court's warning of penalization, the actor himself took to twitter today to acknowledge the fault in their case as pointed out by the court. Using the hashtag #அனுபவமே_பாடம் [#Experienceistheonly_lesson], the actor tweeted, "Raghavendra Hall Property Tax ... We should have appealed to the corporation. The mistake could have been avoided."

** - Rajinikanth's counsel claims that legal 50 per cent remission of property tax can be sought for vacant properties under Section 105 of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act 1919, while property tax collectors have claimed no knowledge of such a remission provision.
