HC issues notice in Rakul Preet Singh's plea over fake media reports in drugs case!

In connection with Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)'s investigation of the drug angle in actor Sushanth Singh Rajput's death case, several actresses were summoned and questioned by the NCB. The media frenzy surrounding the case was on an all-time high as a result, so much so that actress Rakul Preet Singh, one of the names to be summouned had to move high court to stop fake reports surrounding her involvement.

 

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought reports from Central Government [Information and Broadcasting Ministry], News Broadcasters Association and other authorities  over the actress' plea that media be restrained from publishing and broadcasting any news on her in the drug case till the NCB completes investigation. 

 

According to Bar and Bench, Justice Navin Chawla told the counsel representing the center, "You are representing Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. You have power under Cable TV Act. She is saying that there are reports that are wrong.. She may be completely wrong. You can't simply say that this is a sensitive case."

 

He also sought status report from both the center and the news association as Rakul Preet had filed her plea for urgent consideration; The matter would be heard next on October 15, 2020
