The Sathankulam custodial deaths of P Jeyaraj (58) and his son J Beniks (31) may have triggered an uproar against the Tamil Nadu police force but one police official with her bravery has earned the respect of many in the state. Head constable Revathi has become a household name, after signing a statement where she confessed to witnessing her colleagues (seniors) beating the father-son duo the entire night using lathis.
Since the judician magistrate who recorded her statement revealed in his report that Revathy did not sign her statement immediately and only did so upon being assured of her safety, a lot of social media support has been directed her way. Tamil film industry names such as Kamal Haasan, director Vetrimaaran, G.V. Prakash, Aishwarya Rajesh too joined in lauding her action especially since she was apprehensive of receiving threats if she revealed the truth.
