Other Language Films rule Chennai Box Office this weekend

The dry spell at Box office continues in Kollywood with the release of small / lesser known films every week. Despite few films managing to get decent to good reviews, these movies however have not been able to bring in audience to the theatres in large numbers. 

 

This week saw a release of about 8 Tamil films in Kollywood. Except for Bharath's cop drama 'Kaalidas' and Suseenthiran's sports drama 'Champion' other films failed to impress the critics and audience. Other language films have dominated the Chennai Box Office for the weekend December 13 - 15. Dwayne Johnson's Jumanji: The Next Level, Venkatesh - Naga Chaitnaya starrer Venky Mama have bagged the first two spots.

 

Top 5 at Chennai Box Office (Dec 13 - 15)

1. Jumanji The Next Level - 89 lakhs

2. Venky Mama - 21 lakhs

3. Kaalidas - 17 lakhs

4. Mardaani 2 - 15 lakhs

5. Iruttu - 80 lakhs (10 days)

 

Jai's 'Capmaari' and Suseenthiran's 'Champion' raked in Rs. 12 laksh and Rs. 11 lakhs respectively in 3 days. Dhanush ENPT has collected over Rs. 3 cr in Chennai till date while Dinesh's Gundu has minted around Rs. 68 lakhs in 10 days. The dull phase at the ticket windows has been lasting for over a month and is expected to end with the release of Sivakarthikeyan's 'Hero' and Karthi's 'Thambi' which are hitting the screens this Friday (December 20).
