Riveting action fare

The film's biggest strength is that we are all the while aware that what is being shown on screen is based on real events. This is not merely because it has been stated by the makers but because it feels so on screen. The actors playing the various parts, the landscapes that the film traverses and the action choreography everything is authentic while also ensuring that it is being treated as a commercial action vehichle. Vinoth has packed the film in such a way that it runs like one big climax. (more)

Karthi and Vinoth will make you wait for the sequel.

Two things work in favor of the film, the intense suspense drama and the pace in which Theeran travels. The action sequences, in particular, have clicked really well. Action director Dhilip Subbarayan deserves an applause for some breathtaking stunt sequences. (more)

This Karthi film walks the talk

The breakneck pace that the film maintains (for the most part) helps us battle the films major grouse, its running time. Deep into the second half, we can empathise with Karthis frustration; we are as annoyed as he is about not being able to nab the gang. But, the well-orchestrated action sequences keep you hooked. We barely see any walking on-screen; even the jeeps and buses ply in fast-forward. There is so much happening that you dont feel the need to look away or have the space to do so.(more)

A riveting, competently-made police drama

One of the reasons why Theeran is instantly likable and laudable is for its realistic portrayal of cops, making us view their lives in a completely different light. Set in the early 2000's, we follow a team of cops - lead from the front by Karthi - on a nation-wide trip to hunt down the gang of ruthless, cold-blooded dacoits. (more)

Vinoth's detailing is what sets Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru apart from the other cop films we have seen in Tamil cinema

The director's previous film, Sathuranka Vettai, never indicated such a command over technique, but here, Vinoth impresses in this aspect as well, with help from an able crew that pitches in with some of their best work to elevate the film from being a stand cop thriller. (more)

Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru turns an important story into a compelling film. Don't miss it!

Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru has authentically showcased the modus-operandi of the cops, how an investigation would progress, practical challenges in arresting criminals and their personal sacrifices for their profession without cinematic glorification or melodrama. Especially, the pre-interval stretch is easily the best sequence in the film as the director brings his audience to the edge of the seat. (more)

Karthi, Rakul Preet in a well-researched, realistic cop film

The film is very different in tone and presentation. The makers authentically portray the functioning of police and how they investigate. They have also shown us the practical difficulties in arresting criminals who operate outside the state without much commercial glorification or melodrama. (more)
