an engaging thriller let down by lengthy sequences

But the same cannot be said of Vetri. He certainly looks the part, but is hardly convincing as someone who's under immense duress. It certainly doesn't help that the director saddles on him a love interest (Aparna Balamurali) and throws in a few songs that have absolutely no relevance to the scheme of things. There are also some places I found 8 Thottakkal rather conversational, rather dialogue-y� things that have no business in a thriller. Had those been trimmed, it would have surely found its way to the recent debut-director-strikes-big league currently occupied by the makers of Dhruvangal 16 and Maanagaram.(more)

An emotional crime thriller that has a fresh treatment!

Dinesh K Babu's cinematography works in hand with the director's vision. The film drags a bit in the second half and that is where one feels the editor could have been a little sturdier and chopped off few scenes. The love portion did not gel with the context also burdening an otherwise intense script with 2 leisurely sounding songs that pop up at crunch situation. How would someone care to romance a girl when his job is in danger? This film does not deserve to have any songs and it should have been in that way. Apart from the songs and a couple of dragging scenes and the love portions, there is nothing much to complain about in this emotional crime thriller(more)
