Kavalai Vendam - A casual, fun filled ride apt for the young generation

You eventually get what you expect from a total romantic comedy. The jokes fly fast and sometimes very funny, in the first half. The second half picks up from where it left, but it gets flat towards the end. The last 30 minutes look very hurried and could have been better. It loses shape mainly because it blends its fun elements with not so impactful emotions.(more)

Kavalai Vendam-Uninhibited and naughty!

Kavalai Vendam is the glossy rich production values like Karan Johar films. Abhinanthan's scintillating cinematography and Leon James' trendy score. If light-hearted mush is what you're seeking, you're looking in the right place (more)

Go for it as genuine loud laughter is guaranteed in the few comedy scenes

As proven by him in his debut, comedy of an adult nature is Deekay's forte and credit to him that most of his comedy scenes and dialogues hit the target. With a good ensemble cast Deekay could have done much better, but his inconsistently paced screenplay, especially after the interval block is a big let down. Another case of a good idea (although inspired from Sweet Home Alabama) that falls prey to bad execution.(more)

Kavalai Vendam Movie Review

The moments that work in Kavalai Vendam are the ones where the director goes risqu. Deekay keeps giving us below-the-belt gags as a kid, the hero pisses in a pool, and as a grown-up, his you-know-what gets stuck in the zip; one of the heros friends gets kicked in the crotch, while another takes a dump inside a police station ; a minor chase scene has a sight gag involving a character holding a mouse pup. But even these are hit-and-miss. For example, the one at the police station is laugh-out-loud funny (the films standout scene) while the zip scene is meh. An episode on a boat in the second half makes us laugh, but towards the end, bizarrely, Deekay does way with the playful tone and gets all mushy. We are supposed to get teary-eyed, but the sentimentality strikes a jarring note. (more)
