Script is King

KV Anand's movies are mounted on an interesting backdrop, with unique style of story-telling filled with twists and turns logically peppered with grand visuals accompanied by songs. Anegan is no exception and fits the above description to the T. One would wonder how the script writers must have come up with such a uniquely original story with multiple layers. It takes a lot of guts to film such a difficult script without making it too complex nor complicated on the viewers.(more)

Love of a long, long time, finally complete in action.

Although not a masala perse, 'Anegan' savours all tastes. There is action, a little bit of revenge, lighthearted comedy, smothering love, all served with a twist from the usual. (more)

Anegan is an exhilarating and intelligent commercial cinema which will satisfy both masses and classes alike

big kudos to KV Anand-Suresh-Suba trio for coming up with something out of the box and they almost adapted and executed it in an engaging commercial cinema format. The film benefits from its strong casting. Dhanush struts confidently in four different get-up and he has proved once again that he is a rock star.(more)

Anegan is pure camp but also a hugely entertaining one.

Anegan is pulp done perfectly well and KV Anand and his writers SuBa outdo themselves with this tale of reincarnation and revenge. The film certainly has the feel of a pulpy crime novel, which the writers are known for. (more)

An entertainer that will keep you engaged.

The screenplay is kept tight throughout neatly knitting out elements from different periods and KV Anand appears to have this knack of deceiving you on who the real villain is. He proves yet again that the picturization of his songs would earn them a long shelf life(more)

The recipe for a box office winner

Anegan, on the whole, is a complex story told simplistically. Had the complexity been retained, and had the masala spoon been of a lesser size, it would have made for a great film. For now though, it will have to satisfy itself with being a hit film. (more)

Anegan is engaging

The narrative technique and interesting screenplay keep things moving at a brisk pace. But on the downside, there are far too many songs and several unanswered questions. The director has left it to the viewers to decide whether the film is actually about eternal love that transcends death, or a dopamine-induced crazy make-believe world of a stressed out IT professional.(more)

KV Anand's Unusual Attempt Is Backed By Brilliant Performances

Screenplay by KV Anand and Subha is a tad too revealing and confusing at times especially in the second half but KV Anand's unique way of narrating a story makes up for the average screenplay. Editing by Anthony stands out and is one of the positives of Anegan.(more)

An Engaging Movie Charmed with Dhanush's and Karthik's Performance

A director's brilliance lies in the way he assembles all elements of his movie. Here KV Anand made sure his songs (though they don't stand out) are placed so rightly that audience feel them as part of the narrative which is also a treat for Dhanush fans. (more)
