A remarkable effort

Ameer continues his streak of attempting off beat plots, and it looks like he will pull out a triple whammy with his latest flick. He has surely made a bold move by attempting a film like Paruthiveeran. Debutante Karthi's performance is excellent. The performance from the cast as a whole is commendable too. Priya Mani has done a fairly good job. Saravanan excels and doesn't look like someone back from a long break.(more)

Praiseworthy Team Effort

Ameer has shown his class again. The movie clearly rides on the shoulder of its director, who has managed to extract good performances from a relatively inexperienced star cast. The screenplay is taut all through the movie. The action scenes have been choreographed well. All in all, a movie that certainly lives up to the billing. A team effort that is worthy of appreciation and a victorious run in theaters. (more)

Rural is rich

It is some time since Tamil cinema had an earthy movie that is realistically redolent of the pastoral predicaments and emotions. But Ameer has brought alive the rustic simplicity and complexity on our screens. Casting is a big strength of this film. Not a single character has been wasted, however minuscule the role maybe. Ameer's success is not only on the script, story or casting side. He has managed to wrest compelling performances from all the technical crew members.(more)

Worth a look

Dark, deadly and daring - Ameer's Paruthiveeran kicks off by treading on ground where angels fear to tread. Undoubtedly, it is a brave film and full credit goes to the director for making every scene realistic and characters life-like. About a half-hour shorter, the film (2 hr 50 min) would have been much better. With all its ups and downs, Paruthiveeran is still worth a look. (more)

Winner all the way

Karthi has given a mind blowing performance. Priya Mani has given the performance of a lifetime. The song sequences simply merge with the film and just seem an extension of the story line. Every artist in this film has dubbed for his or her roles in their own voices. Kudos to Ameer for making the right choices and bringing out the best in his artists. Paruthiveeran is a winner all the way. (more)
