MovieCrow Box Office Report - October 16 to 18

Thanks to Anushka's popularity in period film genre, Rudhramadevi did get a wide release across popular multiplexes in Chennai. However, the word of mouth hasn't been great, and with two new films slated for release day after tomorrow, Rudhramadevi might just bite the dust sooner than expected. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Rudhramadevi

In spite of a solid story for a period film, Gunasekhar's Rudhramadevi has been let down by poor execution and subpar VFX. The movie had less than 60% occupancy level during last weekend, and it has further deteriorated today. The 3D factor too hasn't helped the movie in pulling the audience to the theatres.

2. Puli

This has to be Vijay's sharpest declined film at the box office in the recent past. The film was screened across just a handful of screens in its third weekend, with dwindling support from the audience.

3. Maya and 4. Thani Oruvan

Nayanthara's Maya has become a rage among film buffs, and the movie even had more shows than Puli across some multiplexes. Even after 50 days, Jayam Ravi's Thani Oruvan held on to sizeable number of screens during last weekend. Both these movies have reiterated that quality content will win at the box office, irrespective of the competition and star power.

Other Movies

Siva's Masala Padam sank without a trace after its first week, and the movie has been termed as disappointment at the box office. Last week's release Sivappu also turned out to be a dud at the box office.

Upcoming week's releases

Vikram's most expected 10 Enradhukulla and Vijay Sethupathi's Naanum Rowdy Dhaan will be clashing at the box office on October 21. Expect these two movies to dethrone all the recent releases.
