MovieCrow Box Office Report - July 31 to August 2

The mad rush was back at the box office, as three well-known movies; Jayam Ravi's Sakalakalavallavan, Vijay Sethupathi's Orange Mittai and Vikram Prabhu's Idhu Enna Maayam, had hit the screens last Friday (July 31). While Orange Mittai took a humble opening with good reviews, Sakalakalavallavan had a wider release, but was received with scathing reviews. Idhu Enna Maayam was middling at its best. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Baahubali

SS Rajamouli's Baahubali was still at the top of the box office table in its 4th weekend. Undoubtedly, the movie has emerged as one of the biggest hits of this year.

2. Sakalakalavallavan

Suraj's Sakalakalavallavan took a good opening, thanks to popular actors like Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Anjali in its star cast. However, the underwhelming reviews don't look good for the film's prospects.

3. Idhu Enna Maayam

Director Vijay's attempt at a romantic entertainer hasn't really turned out to be the way he would have wished. The magic seems to have lost in the translation from paper to screen.

4. Orange Mittai

Vijay Sethupathi's Orange Mittai received positive reviews for its feel-good content, but it will be interesting to see if the movie turns a hit in spite of its limited release.

Other Movies

Kamal Haasan's Papanasam and Dhanush's Maari were running across a handful of screens, while Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum almost vanished from most of the screens.
