MovieCrow Box Office Report - November 21 to 23

There were three notable releases last week, namely, Vanmam, Naaigal Jaakirathai and Kaadu. While Vanmam and Kaadu opened to mixed reviews, Naaigal Jaakirathai received positive reviews for the refreshing attempt. Check out the box office rankings of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Vanmam

In spite of the mixed reviews, Vanmam took a decent opening, thanks to the presence of Vijay Sethupathi. Also, this was the biggest release for a Vijay Sethupathi film. However, critics have slammed Vijay Sethupathi for losing his focus on choosing promising scripts.

2. Naaigal Jaakirathai

Director Shakti Soundar Rajan's Naaigal Jaakirathai was clearly the best film among the new releases last week. Idoh, the Belgian Shepherd dog, stole the limelight and Sibiraj also made a mark after 4 years since his last release.

3. Thirudan Police

Director Caarthick Raju's Thirudan Police was hanging on to most of the screens in its second weekend, thanks to the positive reviews for the film. The news that the same team is coming together for another film has created more buzz around this film.

Other Films

Vijay's Kaththi is surviving across a handful of screens, due to the patronage of repeat audience. Viddharth - Samuthirakani starrer Kaadu was praised for the message conveyed, but the execution isn't convincing enough. Even though Appuchi Gramam got encouraging reviews, the movie had almost vanished from all screens.

Upcoming week's releases

Vasanthabalan's most expected period film Kaaviya Thalaivan will be hitting the screens on November 28th, along with at least half-a-dozen of lesser known films.
