Sigaram Thodu Review - Respectable Height

Sigaram Thodu - Respectable Height!!!
Bharath Vijayakumar

Director Gaurv's  debut work 'Thoonganagaram' gained reasonable notice. Vikram Prabhu is on the ascent straightaway in his career with all his 3 films striking a chord with the audience. The duo come together for 'Sigaram Thodu'. Have they managed to scale the heights to reach the peak? Read on to find.

Plot:

A doting father’s sole aim is to see his son win big as a sincere police officer. But the son has an uneasy feel for the police force as his father, a police officer himself had gone through several hardships. Whether the son finally relents and what makes him take the plunge is Sigaram Thodu in short.

Cast:

Vikram Prabhu continues his smart choice of films. He is not a very expressive actor. But he sure does seem to know how to make optimum use of the available resources. He does a neat job once again in his fourth film and shows improvement in the lighter portions of the film along with his sidekick Sathish. Sathyaraj almost instantly connects with us and he does not even seem to strain much to achieve this. A true veteran in every sense!!! Monal Gajjar is pretty and fits the bill as the regular commercial heroine who can make sense of what Is happening around only when the hero spells it out clearly for her.

Crew:

Imman has once again come up with some foot tapping commercial songs. The background score also is impressive though some portions remind us of the score from ‘Yaavarum Nalam’. Vijay Ulaganath has done a commendable job in capturing the robbery scenes at the ATMs during the dark hours with appropriate lighting. The stunts are kept to the bare minimum and are realistic.

Direction:

Director Gaurav has brought to focus a very relevant crime. The modus operandi on how an ATM functions and the loopholes that are used by the criminal masterminds are narrated in a gripping manner. The lighter scenes involving the romantic angle and the father-son bond are also pretty decent. What is missing though is when these two tracks meet the tension that ought to have reached the peak doesn’t exactly do so. And we really do not know where to point the finger at for this.Maybe the romantic portions or say at least a duet could have been sacrificed in the initial half for scenes involving the villains. We really do not feel any alarming danger as we are almost pretty sure that this is an entertainer where all will be well. While this absence of tension might not really be a problem, say in a fully blown hero worshiping mass masala, it does hurt a realistic movie like this to a certain extent. That said the film is still en engaging watch that is packaged reasonably well. The flashback portions in the film have been crisply narrated in an innovative manner. Director Gaurav who also plays an important role in the film has been able to present a decent entertainer that does not hurt our sensibilities.

Bottomline:

‘Sigaram Thodu’ manages to reach respectable heights within the commercial framework.
