MovieCrow Box Office Report - August 29 to 31

As many as three films clashed at the box office last Friday (August 29). While Vijay Antony's Salim received fair to positive reviews, Atharva's Irumbu Kuthirai received thumbs down from the critics and audience alike. Ashwin's Megha almost went unnoticed, due to lack of publicity and star power. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies during last weekend.

1. Salim

Vijay Antony seems to have carried his fine form from Naan in this film, which is directed by Nirmal Kumar. His subtle expressions and down-to-earth character have struck a chord with the audience. With Vijay Antony willing to continue doing more films as an actor, it would be interesting to see his choice of characters.

2. Irumbu Kuthirai

Newcomer Yuvaraj Bose's Irumbu Kuthirai was written off by the critics for the amateurish screenplay. In spite of having a huge star cast and rich technical values, the director failed to utilize them in the best possible way.

3. Anjaan

After ruling the box office for 2 weeks, Suriya's Anjaan was dethroned by new releases. The screen count and occupancy level are on a slide, due to negative buzz among the general public.

Other Movies

Parthiban's Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam and Jigarthanda were still holding on to respectable number of screens and the occupancy levels in the multiplexes were satisfactory. Dhanush's Velai Illa Pattathari was running across a handful of screens, while Megha had a very limited release. Bharath's Ainthaam Thalaimurai Sidha Vaidhiya Sigamani has bombed at the box office.

Upcoming week's releases

Director Jeeva Shankar's Amara Kaaviyam and Krishna's Vaanavarayan Vallavarayan will be hitting the screens on September 5.
