About Top 10 Movies of 2011

Aadukalam is the best movie of 2011 for choosing a "kalam" that is unique to tamil movies. Vetrimaran's guts to realistically showcase the rawness and nativity should be appreciated. The fact that he was able to make such a difficult subject commercially successful is the main reason for the movie to be ranked number 1 in our ranking. The movie could have enjoyed better success if not for the intense competition from rest of the Pongal movies.

Enough has been mentioned about Aaranya Kaandam and KO (Read Best Directors). Engeyum Eppodhum turned out to be a sleeper hit of 2011 and had a strong message to convey about reckless driving. Deivathirumagal was appreciated for baby Sara and Vikram's performance. GV Prakash's background score touched the audience in the climax sequences.

First 20 minutes of 7aum Arivu about Bodhidharman was of international quality. Even though the movie got mixed responses, targeted marketing ensured that the movie had a good run at the box office with patronage from family audience. Selvaraghavan is one of the rare breed of directors who has the conviction and guts to move the story with visuals and silence. There were some bright spots in Mayakkam Enna which was well appreciated. Mankatha's response was euphoric for Ajith's kickass performance. But, the movie's script, casting and direction came in for scrutiny. Vaanam was a faithful remake with a good message in addition to right amount of commercial elements thrown in. But, the movie failed to make an impression in the Box Office. Mounaguru released a few weeks ago was an example of a movie that did not compromise much on including song+action+comedy routine.
