Sarabham Review - Guessing Game

Sarabham Review  - Guessing Game
Bharath Vijayakumar

C.V.Kumar has done it yet again. A debutant director, a young team, an intriguing title, an unconventional and interesting  film. The pattern continues with Sarabham. Hopefully the success at the box office too.

Plot:

The film starts off by introducing to us an aspiring youngster (Naveen Chandra) who despite a reasonably wealthy position is on the lookout for more money. He gets one such opportunity through a spoilt brat of a business tycoon. Everything seems fine upto a point after which the characters reveal their chameleonic nature.

Cast:

Naveen Chandra comes across as a credible performer who operates well within his framework. Salony Luthra is the surprise package of the film. It takes a while to warm up to her character  due to her slightly unconventional looks. Though nothing spectacular in her performance she goes about the job in an assured manner and her 'care a dam' attitude and body language as Sanjana does the trick for the film. Naren once again proves that he is an astute performer.

Crew:

The plot as such revolves around 3 main characters and their workplaces and residents. The team has obviously worked on a limited budget. The BGM of Britto Michael keeps the guessing mood on and he has actually bolstered some scenes with his score though very little is actually happening on screen. The film has a sleek look to it thanks to cinematographer Krishnan Vasanth.

Direction:

Debutant Arun Mohan has narrated an interesting tale. There are about 3 major surprises that the film banks on and they have worked out well. The hunter and the hunted keep swapping their positions and only towards the end you realize what was it all about. The major drawback of the film is the slightly laborious pacing at times. Between the interesting surprises, there are small periods of lull primarily because there is no extremely interesting scene and we get a more detailed explanation for things that we have understood by then. And though you might not decipher who is the mind behind the happenings and his/her the motive the lack of strong extra characters restricts your guessing to the principle cast.

Bottomline:

An engaging thriller that keeps you interested for the most part. Another notable feather in the cap of C.V.Kumar.
