Disappointing Movies of 2011

  • Nadunisi Naaygal was hands-down most disappointing movie of 2011. Repulsion/'Aruverupu' was the word that many viewers used to describe the movie. The movie was technically slick with no background score. But, audience were not prepared for this type of movie from Gautham Menon who appeared over confident in this movie after delivering a Hit in Vinnaithandi Varuvaya.

  • Dhanush had a rare distinction of  covering the end-to-end spectrum of quality -- Seedan and Mappillai made it to avoid list. Vengai falling right in the middle. Mayakkam Enna and Aadukalam earning kudos to his performance.

  • Similarly, Jiiva delivered a  blockbuster and 3 duds/below average movies. Vanthaan Vendraan became a subject of ridicule. Singam Puli was criticized for being a crass masala fare. Rowthiram as an attempt that went awry. One consolation is Jiiva's 2012 line-up looks extremely bright.

  • Masala remake movies such as Vedi(remake of Siruthai Siva's Souryam) and Osthe (Dabaang) failed to engage the audience. Hopefully, this will put an end to heartless masala movies.

  • Engeyum Kadhal and 180 both relying on love theme and successful music tracks bombed for its draggy content. What a waste of great tunes and lyrics.

  • Bala's Avan Ivan and Suseentharan & Chiyaan's Rajapattai gathered negative reviews from due to huge expectations. The movies were blamed because of the content which did not have enough depth and seriousness to satisfy the fans.
