After nearly 10 years of fighting a plagiarism case in court for his 2010 movie Endhiran, director Shankar has now received a non-bailable warrant against him in the said case. It all started when a short story writer named Arur Tamilnandan alleged that Shankar blatantly copied his story titled Jiguba, that was first published in a Tamil magazine in 1996.

16 similarities between Jiguba and Endhiran are said to be the source of this plagiarism contention and director Shankar was summoned to appear before the court for direct investigation.

Some of these similarities include:

1. 'the invention' having a mechanical voice
2. ability to answer questions and think for itself
3. recording everything it sees (Editec memory)
4.  memorizing a book
5.  having knowledge of fields ranging from music to science and
6. having movable body parts including eyeballs among others.

However since the director failed to make an appearance repeatedly, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. The case has been adjourned till February 19, 2021.
