Singam 2 Box Office First Day Report

Singam 2 Box Office First Day Report

Singam 2 opened to mixed opinions ranging from average to good from fans and critics. Due to Suriya's presence, the movie has managed to get an overall encouraging word of mouth resulting in increase in show count. Singam-2 opened at more than 2400 screens worldwide breaking previous records of Suriya's. Let's look at how Singam 2 performed on day one.

Tamil Nadu (Domestic)

The first day collections on Friday was very good for a movie pushing for such a wide release. Some of the prominent distributors who are releasing the movie are Aascar, Studio Green/Prince/D2(all owned by Suriya's cousins). Singam 2 negotiation and sales were done until the very last minute prior to release. Due to the resistance from Exhibitors to pay MGs, Singam 2 was not released in key centers in Chengalpattu area (Ambattur, Avadi, Kanchipuram, etc.). After the word of mouth from first show, the situation has been sorted and expected to release starting today at rest of the centers. Since Suriya's family members have been deeply involved in the business from production to distribution, the movie is expected to be a very profitable venture for Suriya's family.

Neighboring Southern States

Singam 2 released in 150 screens in Kerala has opened well. The film released in six screens in Thiruvananthapuram had first day first show starting at 5.30 am. In Telugu, the movie released as Yamudu-2 is showing reasonably okay business in B and C centers while recent Super Hit "Balupu" still doing solid business in its 2nd weekend. Finally, Suriya has the strongest fan base in Bangalore and Mysore where it is doing brisk business.

Overseas (US, UK, Canada, Australia, UAE)

Due to July 4 Independence day long weekend in the US, Singam 2 business took an early start on Thursday collecting $51,956 from 40 locations. Based on Friday response, the US distributors are already terming it to be one of the biggest hits in Suriya's career in the USA as most shows in more than 60 centers were sold-out. We need to wait till Saturday and Sunday to assess the box office performance in the UK, Malaysia, UAE and Australia.

North India

Apart from Singam 2, director Hari's "Saamy" remade as Policegiri by none other than KS Ravikumar was also released in Hindi yesterday. Policegiri with Sanjay Dutt in the lead has been ripped apart by critics while Dabbang fans in northern belts are not complaining. After phenomenal success of Singham-1 in Hindi with Ajay Devgn, Singam 2 is eagerly expected to release next week in Hindi (July 12).
