Diwali Movies Theatre Report

Our US BO reporter presents the theatre report for 4 prime shows during the last 3 days at the most popular theatre in the US known for exclusively screening Indian movies. Usually a movie that is doing well should be able to bring in close to 200 people per show.

7aum Arivu

Combined 7aum Arivu(Tamil) and 7th Sense(Telugu) distributions rights were bought for $225,000 (including print costs). The movie needs to make around $350,000 (before deducting theatre share) in order to break-even. 7aum Arivu collections are showing drop in occupancy due to higher ticket prices and mixed word of mouth. Distributors decision to increase the ticket price has back-fired as we had reported earlier since some family viewers reportedly have opted for Velayutham due to cost reasons. 7aum Arivu is expected to break-even at the best case scenario (only if the US BO collections reach the level of Mankatha's within the next 2 weeks)

7th Sense (Telugu)

Biggest disappointment is in the form of 7th Sense (Telugu version) proving to be a non-starter. 7th Sense in the complete run may be lucky to make around $50,000. This has come as a shocker since recently released Bumper Hit Dookudu just set new BO record by making more than $2 Million in the US.

Velayudham

Velayudham US distribution rights was bought for around $70,000*. Due to lower than normal ticket-prices and above average word of mouth, Velayudham is able to bring in slightly more number of people compared to the opening day. Overall, Velayudham may end up in above average status even by making 25% of collection of 7aum Arivu.

* updated $70,000 (not including prints)

Ra.One(Tamil)

Ra.One (Tamil) has been watched by an average of 3/4th of a person per show. Many shows are running with nobody in the theatre. I don't think we need to say anything more than this.
