Thursday releases (non-festival) seem to be working only for the really big heroes like Rajini, Vijay, Ajith and the other 5 to 6 notable heroes (Kamal, Suriya, Vikram, Sivakarthikeyan, Dhanush) that follow. In the absence of a salable hero, a Thursday release doesn't make sense and the opening just doesn't register.

Case in point, yesterday's new releases, Annadurai and Thiruttu Payale 2, have registered below-par openings despite getting equally big releases and sharing the best screens across the state. While Annadurai grossed 24 lakhs in Chennai city, Thiruttu Payale 2 followed with 21 lakhs on the opening day. With good word of mouth, Thiruttu Payale 2 is likely to pick up though.'

Next week, Kodiveeran also arrives on a Thursday (Dec 7) and we wonder if the opening will be any better! Hope the industry tracks and learns.
