Theatres lure movie buffs with attractive ticket prices

If one may recall, post the onset of the GST on movie ticket prices, Abirami Ramanathan, theatre owner, popular distributor and president of the Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatre Owners’ Federation had introduced a waive off on the online booking charges to increase the footfalls in his movie theatres. At that time, he had hoped that his fellow theatre owners would follow suit in bringing down the internet charges to lure movie-buffs to walk into a theatre.

The trend seems to be catching up as AGS Cinemas, another popular chain of multiplex have announced a total waive off on the Rs. 30 online booking charge, ahead of their production banner AGS Entertainment's release, Thiruttu Payalae 2. AGS Cinemas' discount can be availed through their ticket-booking app and is valid till the end of this year i.e December 31, 2017. Though a temporary offer, the move has been welcomed by many including industry folks like director Caarthick Raju (Thirudan PoliceUlkutthu) who congratulated the company through his social media page.

It is worth mentioning here that Abirami Cinemas still offers time to time discounts on movie tickets, the latest being the Winter bonanza offer which offers Tamil movie tickets at Rs. 127. 34 instead of Rs. 165. 78 and the other language movie tickets at Rs. 135. 53 instead of Rs. 176. 43. for the movies released till Nov 29, 2017.
