After Shah Rukh Khan, Indian music director Santhosh Narayanan gets stopped at International Airport
About a year ago, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan tweeted about how he was stopped and detained at the US airport every time he takes a trip to the country. Despite the national debate over the repetitiveness of the incident (SRK was also detained in 2009 and 2012) , there were no comments or statements from the US immigrant officials. Now, as if taking cue from their US counterparts, the Australian airport has apparently stopped Tamil music director Santhosh Narayanan and just like SRK, the musician took to his twitter account to express disappointment over the incident. He wrote :
I was “randomly” picked up for the 8th time in a row at the Sydney airport for a chemical substance test and a rude officer insulted my intelligence. Racial profiling needs to stop. @SydneyAirport

Unlike US, Sydney immediately responded and issued the following explanation :
Hi Santhosh, thanks for reaching out to us, our aim is to provide all passengers with a positive experience. Screening standards are set by the Government. Screening officers are required to select people on a random and continuous basis for screening with the explosive trace 1/3

2/3 detection (ETD) method. This means that as soon as the last person is cleared, the screening officer selects the next person going through security. Under this arrangement, persons passing through the screening point have

3/3 an equal probability of being selected. We hope this explains the method to screening. Sydney Airport

Thanks @SydneyAirport for the response.I wholeheartedly vouch for any public safety measure taken for any number of times in a row. Please do not let some officers misuse this based on their personal racial preferences.

While some people explained how the checkup is routine in Sydney, some took offence to the search and termed it as "racial profiling"
Sorry, this happened to you. It happens to me every time I fly. I am happy they do this, it’s for our safety. Nothing personal. I am happy to participate. Passenger profiling will never stop, it’s an SOP. You never know how many people have been caught and disaster avoided.✌🏻

Unfortunately, may even happen a dozen times. It happens to me every time and I just smile in disbelief. It’s an SOP, they have to show daily, a number count on detailed check. The Chemical swab test is part of it.It hurts more when you are celebrity in your country and not outside.

Sorry to hear this.. if you calmly co-operate the profiling will stop someday.. the more you react you create doubt on folks. Wow you were at Sydney! Have a safe flight. May be next Time we can meet :) all the best .
— Srini (@aptsrini) November 16, 2017When they did it to me at Sydney I straight away asked that officer how random their is their selection not influenced by the colour of my skin,he was speechless for a moment but was defending it after.
