Thalapathy Vijay fans bid farewell to the Mersal Twitter emoji

Being their 100th production, Sri Thenandal Films went all out to make Mersal's promotions stand out in every aspect. One such initiative which really stood out and grabbed the attention of one and all, was the exclusive Mersal emoji (with the image of a cheerful Thalapathy Vijay dusting his hands off) which popped up on our tweet whenever the Mersal related hashtags were used (#Mersal, #AalaporaanThamizhan, #MersalArasan, #BlockbusterMersal etc). This emoji was a huge Hit not just with Vijay's fans.

Mersal was the first South Indian film to have such an emoji. Bollywood films such as Befikre, Jab Harry Met Sejal, Tubelight and recently Judwaa2 have also had such exclusive Twitter emojis.

Tonight, the Mersal emoji has gone offline as it's been two months since it first came into effect. Twitter emojis for movies and brands generally come with a 2 months shelf life and the same applies to the Mersal emoji too. Interestingly some fans are changing the date & time settings on their Twitter app just to get the Mersal emoji back up on their tweet.

All good things come to an end and this Mersal emoji will always be remembered for being a pioneer down South. The first shall always remain special! There are rumors that 2.0 will soon have its own Twitter emoji, thereby becoming the 2nd Tamil film in the emoji line.
