Mersal - 50 CR worldwide after the very first day!

Thalapathy Vijay's Mersal has reached a major milestone with its opening. The total worldwide Day 1 gross of the film (including the USA premieres on Oct 17) has reportedly reached the 50 CR mark.

TN with a Day1 gross of close to 24 CR has contributed almost 50% of the total WW gross while markets like Kerala and USA have also contributed considerably. The other key overseas markets like France, Canada, UK, Australia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Singapore have also seen record openings (non-Rajini in a few) for a Tamil film.

We have to see how the film holds on in the coming days and weeks. It has to gross more than 125 CR in TN and 200 CR worldwide to emerge as a truly successful venture. This Blockbuster opening bodes well for the long run though.
