Vijay's Mersal miffs BJP, praised for 5 rupee doctor homage

Vijay's Mersal miffs BJP, praised for 5 rupee doctor homage

Those who've watched Vijay starrer Mersal would have noticed one of Vijay's characters, Dr. Maaran charges only Rs. 5 from his consultations. Following this various media reports have come up with suggestions of the supposed real-life inspiration some of which include names of doctors like Dr. K. Ramasany from Tenkasi (charges Rs. 10), the recently deceased Dr. Balasubramaniam from Theni (charged Rs. 20) and the doctor who was felicitated during the audio launch of Suseenthiran's Nenjil Thunivirundhaal. ( Also Dr. S. C. Shankare Gowda also known as Dr. Shankare is very popular around Mandya of Karnataka region as ‘Rs 5 doctor’ for he treats only for that amount).

While such an homage to these doctors is being lauded by the audience on one hand, on the other the BJP political wing seems to be miffed with certain scenes in the Atlee directorial. The scenes being mentioned are one where Vijay compares the GST paid and medical service provided between the Indian and Singapore government and one where Vadivelu shows his "empty wallet" and thanks Digital India for the same.

While the BJP wing has demanded for removal of these scenes, it is not known how much of a say they have over a creative product involving fictional characters.
