Tamil Nadu government reacts to TFPC, theatre and movie strike, reduces entertainment tax

Since morning today, Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council's demands with respect to the movie tickets price have been widely talked. President of TFPC, actor-producer Vishal had put for these pointers in order to retain the normalcy in all aspects.

1. No selling tickets above the government scheduled rates for each class and theatre type.
2. Items in the canteen to be sold on m.r.p and viewers can take their own water inside.
3. No parking charges.
4. Amma water to be sold in theatre canteens.

It is worth mentioning here that the TFPC have been on a strike against double taxation and no new movies have released since October 6, 2017. Even some of the multiplexes were shut down in the fight against this local entertainment tax.

In a response to these strikes and demands, the Tamil Nadu Government has reportedly agreed to reduce the tax from 10 to 8 percent and now the revised rates are, as follows

Multiplex: 150 + 28%(42) + 8% ET(12) = ₹ 204,
Non-Plex AC: 100 + 28 + 8 = ₹ 136,
Non-AC: 80 + 14.40 + 6.40 = ₹ 100.80
