In a startling new development, actor Rajkumar Rao starrer Newton has been accused of content plaigiarism from Iran's award winning film Secret Ballot. What makes it a topic of hot discussion is that the Newton is also the official selection for India's entry at the Oscars, 2018. While the online population was divided on whether or not this amounts to embarrassment on the makers and the selectors, actor-director Anurag Kashyap came in support of the film. He wrote :

Produced by Dhrishyam films, Newton is written and directed by Amit V Masurkar. The film which is about a Indian government clerk on election duty, shows how he tries to conduct a hassle-free voting in a conflict-ridden naxalite area. The film also starrs Pankaj Tripathi and Anjali Patil who are making waves down South by starring in Kaala opposite Rajinikanth.
