Smart business strategy employed by team Mersal
Mersal is currently in the post production stage with just some minor shooting (patchwork) left. The team is working with a Diwali release deadline in sight.
Meanwhile, the producers Sri Thenandal Films have decided to release Mersal (their 100th film) on their own, all across TN. This is seen as the way to go for biggies, where there is always an element of risk with producers usually selling off the individual area rights for whopping rates to distributors who may later be in the red if the film doesn't perform up to expectations. There have been many examples of big films leaving distributors in huge losses due to this usual business method.
In the case of Mersal's own release strategy, the producers have ruled out the above scenario and will be in total control of the film whether it is a success or otherwise. This also shows their confidence in the product. Let's see how things go, come Diwali!
