Ashok Selvan on why Kootathil Oruthan is sure to leave you happy 

A day ahead of Kootathil Oruthan's release, we had a quick chat with lead actor Ashok Selvan who gave us an insight into why he did the film, what the film is all about and why he is sure that the movie will put a smile to your face. A look into our quick conversation with the totally unpretentious actor : 

The promotional activities of Kootathil Oruthan - the gift song, offering a slash on GST for your movie tickets or even you speaking up against the whole "fair-complexion obession", have all been on a positive note. Was this to keep with the tone of your film ?  

See, the fair-complexion topic was something I spoke about two months back but I put it out because I felt the need to. The intention of the gift song, which was to give hope to people at a time when there was so much instability within the state and the country was intentional., my director and team decided to promote this one song for the positivity to sink into people. The rest just fell in the right place at the right time I guess.

Priya Anand told us that it was the positivity of the script that made her say yes to it. What lured you into it? 

I had an instant connect to the character. He is in a constant struggle for identity and that was something I grew up with. In fact, a scene from the film where the guy wonders if he is ever gonna fit in is something everyone would have come across and can relate to in their life. 

The song Enda Eppadi by Nivas K Prasanna has become popular among the youngsters. How was it working with him again? 

Post thegidi and especially the Vinmeen song which went on to gain about 20 million views, everyone was keen on cashing in our combo. But we took a conscious decision to work our separate ways and now it feels great to be joining hands again. 

Kootathil Oruthan is releasing tomorrow. Anything you'd like to tell the audience? 

Kootathil Oruthan is a very honest attempt from a team of extremely positive people. Nothing about the film is alienated..The content is simple and relatable and it will leave everyone with a pat on their own back. Its a film about you and you will surely leave happy and sleep peacefully after watching the film. 

Kootathil Oruthan is directed by TJ Gnanavel and is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. The film hits theatre screens tomorrow. i.e. July 28, 2017.
