Sivaji 3D Review - A Visual Extravaganza

Raven's Review 1 : Sivaji 3D is a Visual Extravaganza

The Rajini Phenomenon : One may still vividly remember the experience of watching the ‘First Day First Show’ of Sivaji in 2007. It is NOT an exaggeration to say that it is an equally amazing experience watching Sivaji 3D if not more, People knew the plot, they knew the climax, they have by-hearted Rajinikanth’s punch lines. But, the audience still they went berserk whenever Rajinikanth delivered them. Rajinikanth’s charisma hypnotized the audience as usual.

The 3D Effects :  Sivaji had a dream team in Rajinikanth, Shankar, K V Anand, A R Rahman, Editor Antony and Thotta Tharani. The film had stunning visuals and little did we know at that time about the possibility of the movie being converted to 3D. The conversion of the movie to 3D makes it look more rich and grander. Watch out for the songs (especially "Vaaji Vaaji" and "Sahana"), flipping-the-coin scene. The Prasad FX showcased the 3D conversion at best. There were also minor glitches here and there in the 3D version. Some of the scenes looked unrefined (plane take off scene is one such example).

Crisply edited : The movie‘s run time is just over 2.5 hours when compared to original run time of over 3 hours. The scenes involving Livingston, Solomon Pappaiah (including Angavai Sangavai scenes) and the long fight sequence in the music store are removed from the first half. The other fight sequences are considerably trimmed and many scenes are crisply edited. The movie has a slick feel to it and moves at a rapid pace.

On the whole, Sivaji 3D is a perfect treat for Rajini fans. The fans would not miss an opportunity to watch their Superstar on the big screens, would they?Sivaji 3D might give the upcoming new releases a run for their money.

Bharat Vijayakumar's Review 2 : Aural and Visual Treat

Sivaji 3D is an ideal opportunity for Rajini fans to revisit their matinee idol on the big screen. And releasing it on the superstar's birthday itself is the perfect icing on the cake. Does the technical conversion add more value to this 2007 blockbuster? The answer is Yes and No. There are a few fine nuances in the 3D version that you will enjoy. Also the movie is in 3D format throughout its running time. While the conversion itself seems to be very good and on par with international standards the only drawback is that the content of the movie is such that it cannot be enhanced a great deal by this technical advancement.

Major Attractions:  The major attraction apart from the superstar himself is the grandeur of the songs. 5 years is a reasonably long time frame in this day and age. Yet the songs tuned by A.R. Rahman and picturised richly by KV Anand are an aural and visual treat. The Adhiradi song in particular should have the fans going crazy. The pruning of some comedy scenes and a major portion of action sequences also aids in increasing the pace of the movie.

In case you did not particularly enjoy Shivaji when it was originally released there is not much chance of this 3D version changing your opinion. But fans of the superstar will lap it up due to the void left by the delay in Kochadaiyan's release. And looking at the current trend of movies and the change in audience's taste, one seriously doubts whether there will be any movies in the future which can rely solely on the charisma of the lead man. And that is probably reason enough for you to catch a glimpse of the superstar in 3D.

In case you are very particular in catching Shivaji 3D in a Dolby ATMOS auditorium, be forewarned. Amidst the thundering claps and whistles, you might not notice much difference!
