Uru is a new-age psychological thriller directed by debut director Vicky Anand. With Kalaiarasan, Dhansika and Mime Gopi being the know faces in the film, every other member of the cast and the crew seems refreshingly new. Does Uru live up to the benchmark set for a thriller movie or creates a new trend itself? Read further to know.

The Plot, Script, Screenplay, Engaging Factor, Suspense Element, Direction:

The plot revolves around long-ago-successful-but-now-deceased writer whose works have become a cliché and thus gets rejected by every publisher. The writer comes up with an intriguing line and is set on a pursuit of making his creation praise-worthy. How do the efforts invested alters the life of the protagonist makes the movie.

The first half of the movie, one must say, is quite commendable and the team has delivered a neat show. The script punches right on your guts and you are left bewildered. The natural lighting, jolting BGMs and the performances are truly laudable. Any horror-thriller aficionado might have a thorough adrenaline rush and a horror-thriller phobic would feel a pit in the stomach every now n then.

Right at the interval, the script preps you for something unimaginable and more pumping and at the same time, you would wonder how will the crew justify the hype created.

It is the second half where you might feel a let down in the pace and the events grow consistently scattered. The twists are decipherable and the inability of the script to hold us tight is evident with the way it has been treated. Though you don’t feel that the movie is wasted, you might also not be able to accept the way it ends. The director could have thought a little more was the feeling towards the end.

Casting & Technicalities:

It’s Dhansika and Kalaiarasan's show all over. Specifically the former, whose athletic physique has been used so well to match the character line. Kalaiarasan may have to work more on the body language required for a thriller and definitely on the pronunciation. Nevertheless, when the actors jolt, the audience reflect the same. Every reaction portrayed on screen is expressed by the audience in the first half, which is the biggest success of the movie.

As stated earlier, the natural light cinematography is done just perfect. Kudos to the cinematographer PrasannaS.Kumar. Lovely zoom in and zoom out shots that done artistically. Another hero of the movie is definitely the Music Director, Johan. The apt pauses and the BG score is tremendously done that you yourself feel being a part of the frame.

Once the plot sets the groove for the thriller, the pace should have sped up to keep the nail-biting emotion propelled. This is where the tightly crafted screenplay is set free to wander all around.

What could have been a totally different experience falls short of the expected outcome due to the script treatment in the second half. When a script is tied with so many knots and twists, the director should know how to until them without any compromised.

Bottomline:

An explosive material that is detonated before the explosion.
