Kamal Haasan gets candid about Politics and more

Q : Do you think actors should come to Politics?

A : Given the current situation, no one should come to Politics. Why should we separate the actors? I personally believe that anyone with a rational mind should not foray into politics. 

Q : People are talking about Rajinikanth's political venture. But some people allege that he is not a Tamilian. How do you see that?

A : (pointing at the media) You too can be a reason for this. This is a press launch for the Bigg Boss show but you are asking me a totally unrelated question. So it (Rajinikanth not being a Tamilian) could have stemmed from this also. 

Q. In the promo (of Bigg Boss), you have mentioned that "I have acted as an Indian and I am living as an Indian". What it the correct explanation for it? 

A. If you haven't understood, how can I make you understand? Only if I live and show as an Indian for some more days, will I think you will understand. Because "I have acted as an Indian" denotes my film Indian and "I am living as an Indian" denotes my own life. But despite that if you ask me what it means then it means we have to respect our country and its law and order. Most importantly we have to pay taxes which i am doing. 

Q. When will you foray into Politics?

A. Are you asking me when? Its been years since I've forayed. Right from the age of 21, when i first got my finger inked I entered politics. I've been in politics since then. But I am not a part of the competitive politics. I stand among the common crowd that decides who should come and who shouldn't to politics. 

Q. Do you think Rajini will come to Politics (meaning do you think he'll get elected)?

A. When the next 5 year term comes, we will talk about it. 

Q. How do you see that general opinion that only a Tamilian should rule Tamil Nadu?

A. We can't say like that. Anyone with the Tamil pride can. Is Gandhi is not a Tamilian? Is Nehru a Tamilian, Is Subhash Chandra Bose Tamilian? But many in my place are named Bose. Gandhi is a very common name all over India...People of Kerala still consider me a Malayalee. I am both this and that...

Q. When will you come into competitive politics?

A. Competition is a wrong word in Politics. I think politics is service related and treating it as a means of making money seems wrong to me. 

Q. Do you think politicians of today treat their profession as a means of service?

A. Would you know only if I say Definitely Not!?

Q. Rajini has said that the political system is not right. What is your opinion on it?

A. He too has said what everyone else has been saying. He has not said anything different or wrong. 

Q. What do you think should change in this system?

A. How many should I say (meaning the list is too long). Firstly we have to know that this (politics) is not a profession for earning. So we should pay a good salary to our future CM, MLAs ans MPs and ask them to work for us. When you ask them to do charity and service for us, they end up doing other things in the name of charity and service. So many things like these needs to be changed...

Q. What are the do's and dont's of Politics?

A. If I knew, I'd be in Politics.
