2012 Diwali Tamil Movie Releases Preview

Quick Previews – Podaa Podi and Ammavin Kaipesi

by Raven

Finally, the release list has been finalized and two other mainstream Tamil films are joining Thuppakki for Diwali this year. STR’s Podaa Podi and Thankar Bachan’s Ammavin Kaipesi are battling it out with A.R. Murgadoss and Vijay’s ThuppakkiWe had published detailed Thuppakki preview last week. Let’s see a quick preview of other two films.

Podaa Podi

Podaa Podi has been in the making for four and a half years. Starring STR and newcomer Varu Sarathkumar in the lead, the film is directed by debutant Vignesh Shivaa. Premji Amaran and Santhanam are doing cameo acts in the film. Song picturization and visuals captured in and around London are expected to be a highlight. Editing is done by STR's regular Anthony.

The team went for the censors couple of days ago and got ‘U’ certificate. The movie is centered around dance and Varu Sarathkumar will be seen as a salsa dancer in the film. With STR being an excellent dancer, audience is assured of some great dance moves set in the backdrop of all hit songs.

After extremely long delay, the team did an excellent job in re-branding by coming up with new title design, fresh poster look, youthful teaser trailer and Dharan's chart-buster songs. By pitching the movie against Thuppakki, the movie displayed confidence to stand up against the juggernaut. A combination of these marketing and psychological factors have successfully shed all the negative images typically associated with the delayed movies. STR should be commended for making a U turn and making it a credible competitor in Diwali race.

Ammavin Kaipesi

Thangar Bachchan’s Ammavin Kaipesi has so far received feeble response for the advance bookings and the movie is releasing in a very limited number of screens. The movie got a last minute scare with some legal issues around money settlement. These legal issues were settled and the movie is confirmed to release as per plan. Shantanoo and Iniya play the lead roles in the movie. It is a critical film for Shantanoo who is desperately looking for a hit.

The movie is expected to be a sentimental tale, revolving around an old mother and a mobile phone. Music is scored by Rohit Kulkari and camera is handled by Thangar Bachchan himself. Editing is done by National Award Winning editor Kishore TE.
