AadhiBhagavan Music Review

by Poornima B.

Ameer’s Aadhi Bhagavan had a grand music release at Toronto earlier this month. The movie has Jayam Ravi and Neetu Chandra in lead roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music for the film and this is the fourth film for which Ameer and Yuvan are teaming up. Let us check out how the songs have come out!

Eisalaamey Eisalaam (Artists: Manasi Scott, Rahul Nambiar, Lyrics: Snehan)

A spicy song from Manasi! The sax sequence gives an interesting start followed by a humming voice by Manasi repated through out the song. The song is sung with excitement and we can hear Rahul joining for a few common lines with her. The violin-flute combination is used throughout the song along with arabic tunes.

Kaatrile Nadanthene (Artists: Udit Narayan, Shweta Pandit, Lyrics: Arivumathi)

We can see Udit rendering the song -- once again with his poor accent. Shweta’s performance is impressive. The classical swaras enlighten the mood and the background music sounds very pleasant. This song has great potential to succeed, if only Udit Narayan's pronunciation had been better.

Yaavum Poithana (Artist: Madhushree, Lyrics: Snehan)

This song has shades of Idhayam(Billa2) and Nanbane(Mankatha) songs with characteristic singing by Madhushree and usage of tabla. Madhushree has done a great job in the song. The song is melodious and ends on a rich notes and beautiful chorus.

Oru Thuli Vishamaai (Artists: Sharib Sabri, Shreya Ghoshal, Lyrics: Snehan)

This song is differently constructed with Sharib Sabri and Shreya Ghoshal singing this song with slightly unconventional tune. The fusion of Western music with the collaboration of Hindustani and Classical styles is an interesting attempt. One may get a bizarre feel on first listen, but might start liking the song due to Shreya Ghoshal’s stylish modulations.

Agadam Bagadam (Artist: Mohit Chauhan, Lyrics: Manoj)

A Hindi song in a Tamil film. This song sounds like it is situational. The music, tunes and beats keep the energy high throughout. Even though the song is a peppy hip hop number sung with a lot of energy by Mohit Chauhan, it may not make it high on charts due to song being sung entirely in Hindi.

Bhagavan Rap Song (Artist: The Prophecy, Sathyan)

Rap songs are not quite common in Tamil Cinema. Here comes a ‘Bhagavan’ Rap and it appears like a powerful song with excellent interludes. The song is full of energy from the start till the end and is impressive at the first listen. Perfect close for this gangster album.

VERDICT : Aadhibhagavan is an album filled with songs from various genres. Yuvan has done a remarkable job in experimenting sounds and tunes. The album would have gotten better attention it deserves if the audio release was sufficiently spaced from others released recently.
