MovieCrow Box Office Report - August 5 to 7

After the Kabali storm, three movies -- Thirunaal, Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum and Namadhu had hit the screens last weekend. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Kabali

In spite of the new releases, Superstar Rajinikanth's Kabali was still at the top of the box office table for the third consecutive weekend. The mixed reviews haven't affected this Pa. Ranjith directorial, as it has become a blockbuster already in the city.

2. Thirunaal

Jiiva - Nayanthara's Thirunaal opened to negative reviews, mainly due to the outdated and uninspiring screenplay. The hype created for Jiiva and Nayanthara pairing up nearly after a decade couldn't live for long too. Even though the movie took a decent opening, it would be difficult for the movie to sustain at the box office.

3. Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum

Directed by Premsai, this Jai starrer opened to mixed reviews. Although the movie has its moments, it couldn't satisfy the audience as a complete entertainer.

Other Movies

Mohanlal - Gautami's Namadhu received lukewarm response from the fans, due to the dubbed feel, and the last minute promotions did not help the movie much. Interestingly, Samuthirakani's Appa came back strong and was running successfully across a few screens.

Upcoming week's releases

The long Independence day weekend will be a crowded one as Vikram Prabhu's Wagah, Raju Murugan's Joker and KS Ravikumar's Mudinja Ivana Pudi will be clashing at the box office on August 12.
