Mugamoodi Music Review

Mugamoodi audio was launched on July 20th, 2012 by Vijay. The music album boasts 11 tracks. Out of which, there are 3 full-fledged songs and remaining 7 are theme music. Unlike previous Mysskin's album which has a mandatory kutthu, all songs in Mugamoodi can be classified as melody.

Vaaya moodi Summa Iruda

Lyricist - Karky, Singer - Aalaap Raju

The pick of the album is "Vaaya moodi summa iruda" which will be an instant hit among listeners. The song works big time because of the catchy colloquial lyrics nicely blended with beautiful lyrics taking a time slice view of love - yesterday, today and tomorrow. Interesting construction. Chartbuster.

Maayavi

Lyricist - Karky, Singer - Chinmayi

"Maayavi", a solo song sung by Chinmayi, is a melody track about the pangs of love. The song style resembles early 90s Ilayaraja style orchestration. This song may click after one sees the song on the big screen. The lyrics by Madhan Karky is noteworthy and ends with intriguing line "விழிகள் இருந்தும் உனை காணவே முடியாததுவோ?".

 Bar Anthem (Kudi Vazhthu)

Lyricist - Mysskin, Singer - Mysskin

Bar Anthem has interesting Ilayaraja interludes and engaging commentary from Mysskin. The song is expected to fill the spot occupied by "Vazha Meenu" and "Kathala Kannale" in Mysskin movies. The song is expected to have 'mass' choreography that should elevate the song after release. Only let-down is Mysskin's voice and his inability to scale higher pitch is evident.

 Themes

Mugamoodi theme tracks show music director K's maturity and confidence already in his second movie. "Come lets fall in love" theme is a piano version of "Vaaya Moodi" song. "Lullaby for Loss" theme is yet another pathos version of the same song. "Maayavi" flute theme is directly based on the Chinmayi song with the same title. "Blue Panther on the Prowl" theme is already heard in the background in the teaser. "Cape of Good Hope", 'Hell Heaven and the Ladder' theme and "Don't drive your car with this music" are the remaining themes with BGM structure.

Conclusion

In the earlier movie, K had notable background tracks in Yuththam Sei which didn't get the attention they deserved, probably due to short window between audio release and movie release. Overall, the Mugamoodi music is grim and raw with underlying layers of melody which is very effective in setting the mood for the movie.
