Sivaji Completes 5 years as 3D gets ready

Rajini and Shankar's Sivaji released in June 2007 completed 5 years recently. Box office tracking is usually separated as "Before Sivaji" and "After Sivaji" since this milestone movie was the first to adopt a wide release strategy that has become a norm these days. Sivaji was released worldwide with 800 prints and the it was the first movie that ran continuous back-to-back shows at Mayajaal (before other Multiplexes came into existence). Releasing a Tamil movie in 800 prints was a gargantuan leap at that time.

Tidbit - Rajini is also believed to be the first Tamil actor to have shattered the 100 print celing. Rajini and Manirathnam's Thalapathy was the first Tamil movie to have released in more than 100 prints all over Tamil Nadu and neighboring states.
