2016 has started on a high note for Tamil Cinema. Within 40 days, the trade has seen three 'Hits' -- Rajini Murugan, Aranmanai 2 and Irudhi Suttru. In spite of three new releases during last weekend, both Aranmanai 2 and Irudhi Suttru were ruling the bigger screens across multiplexes in the city. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

 

1. Aranmanai 2


Director Sundar C yet again proves that he makes movies for the audience and the critical reviews don't affect his films. Aranmanai 2 has been getting constant support from the family audiences and has been termed as a 'Hit' by trade pundits.

 

2. Irudhi Suttru


Irudhi Suttru is one of the rare films, that is loved by the critics and audience alike. Madhavan's rustic act has been garnering applause from all quarters, while Ritika Singh has become the latest sensation of the tinsel town.

 

3. Bangalore Naatkal


Bommarillu Bhaskar's Bangalore Naatkal has been termed as a faithful remake of super hit Bangalore Days, with Parvathy's act standing a class apart from the performances of other lead actors.

 

4. Visaranai


Visaranai took a good opening, particularly across multiplexes, thanks to the excellent pre-release reports the film carried. With the movie being lapped up movie buffs and general cinema lovers, the movie is likely to enjoy good run at the theaters for a week or two.

 

Other Movies


Prashanth's comeback film - Saahasam took a below average opening, while Rajini Murugan was running across a few screens.

 

Upcoming week's releases


Siddharth's Jil Jung Juk, Vimal's Anjala and lesser-known Vil Ambu are all set to clash at the box office on February 12.
